Nest #9

Veronica L'Allier and Bob Mason found a crawl at the first house up beach from the club.  Bill and Linda Nelson responded and found Nest #9. The 142  eggs were moved to a safer location about 100 yards upthe beach. Bob and Veronica were a great help in relocating nest.  Here is a shot of Linda, Bob and Veronica placing the eggs behind the Masons' house:

Happy Mothers Day - Nests 7 & 8!

Happy Mother's Day to the Mothers in our patrol and all the turtle mothers out there. Especially the mothers who came up and left us 5 false crawls and 2 nests today.

On Zone 3,  Valerie and Mark Doane started the day with 3 crawls. Jen and Harvey Gibson responded and found nest #7.  Zone 4 walkers  all went to help Zone 3 a walkers and Jen with the nest and the move of 117 eggs to a safer location on Zone 2.

On Zone 2, Karen Sewell and Judy Benko reported two crawls. Jen and Harvey and the Zone 2 ladies found nest #8  and moved 138 eggs to the new nest down the beach about 50 yards near nest #7.

Rick. Segal then reported from Zone 1 with 3 crawls and pictures of them. Bill and Eileen Middleton were dispatched to check these out. Unfortunately, they wer all false crawls.

A beautiful and productive Mothers Day on Seabrook Island's Beaches.

Nest #6

On a rainy Saturday, Jen & Harvey Gibson and Denisa Collins found a crawl on Zone #1 just south of the vehicle entrance. Terry Fansler, Beautsie Zahrn and Gayle Evans arrived to help. Terry and Jen probed and Jen found the nest of 113 eggs. Since the nest was below the high tide line, it was relocated 50 yards up the beach.

Busy Day on the Beach - Nests 3, 4 & 5!

Obviously, the turtles sensed the approach of Mother's Day as they swarmed our beaches last night.

Lauren Helmer, Anne Snelgrove and Barbara Hanson started the morning on Zone 1 with a crawl 100 yards north of Boardwalk #9 in front of the Pelican Watch Villas. Bill Greubel responded and found Nest #3.  Barbara and Lauren helped move the nest of 156 eggs to 175 yards north of the Camp's boat shed.

Meanwhile, Melanie Jerome, Kathy Francis and Ruth Ann Henderer found a crawl just north of Boardwalk #2 on Zone 3.  Sandy MacCoss responded and found Nest #4.  The 124 eggs were moved to Zone 4 between Boardwalk #1 and the first dog sign.

There was also a false crawl on Zone 3 about 30 feet north of the nest.

Back on Zone 1, Anne Snelgrove completed the walk while Nest #3 was being processed.  Jackpot!  She found a crawl south of the vehicle entrance.  Bill Greubel responded after completing the Nest #3 move.  He found Nest #5 with 161 eggs which was moved to the new location for Nest 3 south of the Camp's boat shed.

We Have Nest #2!

The crawl was found on Zone #1 south of the old pier by Lauryn Gilmer. Lauryn did a great job finding the nest since it was high tide and there wasn't much of the crawl visible. Terry Fansler, Sandy MacCoss and Tim Morawski probed and Sandy found the nest. It was a very large nest and the 152 eggs (less 1 for the genetics study) were relocated above the high tide line in front of the boats on Zone #1.
