Nest #35

Vicky & Bob Becker reported two in and out false crawls and then nest #35. Judy Morr found the nest but Bill and Linda Nelson were there helping too as all were digging to find the elusive, deep (15") nest. The 92 remaining eggs were moved north of Bob Mason's house.

Nests 33 & 34

The first two calls came at the same time reporting a total of three crawls. Rob Jerome, Gary Holtz, Mike Vinson and Catherine Scully called with a crawl north of Boardwalk 6.  Bill Greubel responded and found Nest #33. The 110 eggs were moved to higher ground.

Veronica L'Allier and Bob Mason called with two crawls at the first house past the club.  Bill and Linda Nelson and Jim Lawrence responded.  Bill found Nest #34.  Bill and Jim moved the nest of 146 eggs to the dunes behind Bob Mason’s house.

Nests 31 & 32

We have a late addendum to yesterday's report. Terry and Gary Fansler went to the beach in the afternoon to scout more areas to move nests. Amanda Shilko and Bill Greubel went with them. When they came to the crawl where we had not found a nest in the morning, Bill got out and started probing while the others went on. Bill soon called them to bring supplies to move nest #31 which he had found! 129 total eggs. 128 were moved. That makes it 5 crawls and 5 nests for Saturday. Not too shabby.

This morning, Valerie & mark Doane &Lisa Hand reported a crawl near boardwalk 2. Jen & Harvey Gibson responded accompanied by their granddaughters and after a lot of probing and digging, Mark found nest #32 with 131 eggs.  The nest of the remaining 127 eggs was relocated to higher ground north of boardwalk 6.

We are moving up the nest count ladder with a lot of early nests.  At this point last year we had 22 nests so we're well ahead of that pace. Lets hope the turtles can keep it up!.

Nests 27 through 30 - Four in One Day!

We had a red letter day on the beach! We had 5 crawls and we found 4 nests and all are in situ.

Pat Greubel and Arline DeGennaro reported two crawls. The first between walks 2 and 3. and the second  closer to walk 2. Terry Fansler, Sandy MacCoss and Beautsie Zahrn responded. Sandy probed the first crawl but could not find a nest.  The second crawl was probed by Terry and Beautsie. Beautsie found the eggs and Terry dug down to the eggs. Nest #28 was left in situ

The third call was from Jen and HarveyGibson with a crawl at the far southern end of the beach. They found the eggs for nest #27  and left the nest in situ.

The fourth call was from Tracy Thorne and Cathrine Scully with a crawl nearly a 1/4 mile long near the last dog sign. Bill and Eileen Middleton responded and found nest #29  again in situ. They also sent along a photo of an outstanding sand turtle sculpture.

Karen Sewell then called in a crawl  100 yards from boardwalk 9.  Harvey and Jen Gibson found the eggs for nest # 30 and it is in situ too.

Four nests in one day!
