Nest 75 ties the all-time record number of nests set in 2015! Walkers Mimi Montague, Karen Preston, Pixie Hider and Lynne Madison called with a crawl just north of Boardwalk 6. The Middletons responded and found Nest 75. It was able to be left in situ.
Nest 74
Walkers called in a crawl in front of the yellow house, After extensive probing and digging by Tim Morawski, Sandy MacCoss, Terry Fansler, Mike Vinson and Jane Magioncalda,Tim Morawski found Nest 74 The 99 eggs were relocated to an area right behind the original nest. Walkers were Paula Baram, Heather Fife, Brad Masteller, Charlane Faught and her grandchildren Kylie, Lucy & Jax.
Nests 72 & 73
Walkers Joleen Ardaiolo, Beverly Stribling and Nancy and Joel Pondelik called in with two crawls 100 yards and 70 yards north of the old pier way out on zone 1. Bill and Linda Nelson responded and found a nest at each of the two crawls. The nests were up in the grass and both were left in situ. These are Nests 72 and 73.
Nest 71
We ended June with Nest 71. This gives us 45 nests in June, easily eclipsing the old record of 35 set in 2015.
The crawl was found just south of boardwalk 6. The Doanes probed and found the nest below the high tide line and 108 eggs were relocated behind the original nest. The Zone 2 walkers, Cindy Willis and Heidi Lantin were delayed (this nest is at the very end of their walk) because they were picking up large amounts of trash, thank you! Zone 3 Walkers Valerie and Mark Doane, Rachel, Marshall and Neva Carter spotted the crawl as they finished their walk.
Nest 70
Walkers on North Beach won the prize today. The mama turtle was still on the beach when Walkers Sandy MacCoss, Alison Bowers, Martha Goldstein and J-Anna Smith got to the area between the two dog signs. Bill Greubel responded and found the eggs for Nest 70 before the mama made it back to the sea. Nest 70 was able to be left in situ.
