Nests 38, 39 & 40 !

Brenda White, walking alone today, was very excited to report two crawls; both near the trash can north of Boardwalk 1. These were her first crawls after 2 years of walking. Congratulations Brenda!! Sandy MacCoss probed both body pits and found nests 39 and 40. They were both left in situ.

Walkers Lindsey Capp and Kathy Hanson called in a long beautiful crawl between Boardwalks 2 & 3. It was probed by Mike Vinson and the 120 eggs making up nest 38 were moved back about 20 yards to avoid high tides. They also found a Least Tern egg in the middle of the turtle tracks, poor bird thought the turtle did the work for her.

Four More Nests!

The turtles took a couple of days off but came back in full force this morning!

Brenda Zack called in first with a crawl between the Camp St Christopher flag and kayak shed. Judy Morr probed and found nest 34 containing 115 eggs which were relocated back 10 yards to a safer location. Shortly thereafter Brenda found another crawl near the danger sign. Bill and Eileen Middleton probed and found the nest. Nest 36 was safely tucked into the dunes and left in situ.

Pam Salvestrini & Lori Porwoll called in two crawls one on each side of the trash can north of Boardwalk 1. Mike Vinson probed both crawls and found eggs in each. Nest 35 is located about 20 yards behind the trash can and was left in situ. Nest 37 is located about 40 yards north of the trash can and was also left in situ.

Torry Kindley found an obvious false crawl between Boardwalks 2 & 3, She also found a crawl between Boardwalks 1 & 2. Mike Vinson investigated each and declared both false crawls.

Nest 33

The first call came in at 6:19 from Joshua and Amanda Shilko. There was a good looking crawl just South of the Kayak Shed for Camp St Christopher. Sandy MacCoss and Jane Magioncalda probed and Jane found the eggs for Nest 33. This smart mama placed them in a nice secure spot and the nest was left in situ. We are not sure what the Shilko's are doing to find so many crawls this year! This was their 5th nest of the year.

Nest 32

Walkers Melanie Jerome and Anne Snelgrove were next to call with a promising crawl just south of the Danger sign near Camp St Christopher.  Judy Morr responded and found Nest 32.  Due to the fragile nature of that area of the beach, the 118 eggs were moved to a safer location near the boat shelter.

Nest 31

Two crawls were reported this morning, one near Boardwalk 4 and the other 5 houses north of the Pelican's Nest. The first crawl was reported by Judy Morr and the second by Paula Baram and Heather Fife.

Mike Vinson probed the crawl near Boardwalk 4 and declared it a false crawl.

Sandy MacCoss and Jane Magioncalda probed the crawl north of the Pelicans Nest and found Nest 31. This mama laid her eggs in a very shallow nest, the top eggs were only 3 inches from the surface and right on the high tideline. She laid 121 eggs, however 7 were broken. The remaining 114 eggs were relocated 25 yards further back in front of the 4th house north of Pelican's Nest.
