We have two new nests on Zone 1. Jen & Harvey Gibson & Denisa Collins found nest #15. Terry Fansler and Jen probed to find the eggs. It was above the high tide line so it was left in situ.
Harvey Gibson walked the rest of the zone and found nest #16. Sandy MacCoss probed to find the eggs. It was decided to leave it in situ too.
We now have the second highest number of May nests in our history and we've still got a chance to break the record of 19.
The rains stopped just in time for the morning walks. There weren't any nests but Bill Nelson captured a beautiful sunrise.
Denisa Collins was on the beach to see the Mama of Nest #13 lay the nest and go back to the sea. It was Denisa's first time to see a mama up close and personal. Jane Magioncalda, Joshua and Amanda Shilko also saw the mama going back into the sea. What a thrill for all of them. Being on the beach early has it rewards.
Zone 2 Judy Benko found a crawl in front of the third house up beach from the club. Jen and Harvey responded and found Nest #14 with 133 eggs.
Zone 3 - Valerie and Mark Doane with Lisa Hand (walking for the first time) found the crawl for Nest #13 just south of boardwalk # 1. Harvey and Jen Gibson were the first responders.
Both nests were moved to zone 4 north of the first dog sign.
The crawl for Nest #12 was found on Zone 3 by Ruth Ann Henderer, Kathy Francis and Melanie Jerome about 40 yards south of the vehicle entrance. Bill Greubel found the nest and relocated the 136 eggs to a safer location between the dog signs on Zone 4.
Zone 4 WalkersRuby Jenkins, Lori Porwoll, Pam Salvestrini, Mary VanDuesen & Lynda Zegers reported a crawl 50 yards past the first dog sign..Tim Morawski responded and found the nest . Nest #11 had 104 eggs. One was used for the DNA study, and the rest were relocated nearby to protect them from the tides.
On Zone 3 , Walkers Bill and Linda Nelson called with a crawl between boardwalks 2 and 3 that became nest # 10. The nest, with 121 eggs, was found by Bill Nelson and moved by Linda Nelson and Tim Morawski to zone 4 just past the first dog sign.
